The concept of ‘spaciousness’ is a reoccurring theme in my work. Many of my yoga classes explore creating more space in the body through movement while my meditation practice is all about creating more space in the mind. Mindfulness has equipped me with the tools to craft space between my thoughts and emotions, providing a greater sense of freedom and choice. (I even named my mindfulness studio in London, 'The___Space' after this very concept!)
In my experience, a sense of inner spaciousness translates to openness, calmness, clarity, and freedom. As we dive into the hustle and bustle of December—preparing for the holidays and navigating the pressures of work, finances, relationships, and more—it's all too easy to feel constricted, tense, and potentially overwhelmed.
So, I'd like to share with you four ways that I navigate overwhelming moments and cultivate more spaciousness in my life:
Meditation- Taking time to meditate is my go-to practice to cultivate more space in both my body and my mind. Try this 15 minute practice called ‘Expanding Your Container’:
Journaling- I love getting my thoughts onto paper as a way of decluttering my busy mind. I try to fill 3 pieces of paper up with stream-of-consciousness writing every motning.
Mindful Movement- Whether that’s a yoga practice, a mindful walk or a HIIT class, moving with the intention to loosen up the body will have a similar affect on the mind. (For our paid subscribers you’ll see a 25 minute mindful movement practice below.)
Time Blocks and Boundaries- Give yourself the gift of time, allowing space between each of your commitments. Embrace the power of saying 'no' (hello boundaries!)
